I am a painter born in Lower Manhattan, living in Brooklyn, working in Soho, & creating in Vermont. Growing up in a commercially zoned loft in a family of artists, I've always been interested in tools and their uses. I'm what my friends like to call "joyfully practical." For most of my adult life, I've worked as a carpenter, a gallery facilities manager, & a general handyman across the city.
One thing I've learned is that there's always a use for something. So now I use the extra of the ordinary to make something beautiful.
Because not all trash has to be waste.
In 2020, I opened the Thrift Nook Garage Sale out of our Brooklyn garage, where we gave new homes to useful things people discarded in the street from day to day. Over the course of the next couple of years, it developed into a community exchange with people giving & donating as they were able and taking as they needed.
When we decided to close in 2023, I was still left with the itch to make use of excess. So I returned to creating art pieces that took the unassuming things we walk past every day and gave them a new life with restored value.
